In March 2023, I was delighted to be invited by Rachel Pardoe, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, to join her in delivering the highly regarded 3-day online training she has developed – Babies in Our Mind: working therapeutically with parents and infants to promote secure attachment and parental mentalisation (BIOM).
BIOM is an accredited training on the AiMH UK Infant Mental Health Recognition Register and also supports skills identified in the Competency framework for Perinatal Mental Health.
BIOM has been delivered to over 210 practitioners in perinatal and IMH services, including several trainings commissioned by NHS England.
The training includes presentations on core aspects of infant mental health but is also highly interactive with:
- in-depth group discussion of key concepts
- guidance on detailed observation of parent-infant interaction
- group microanalysis of relevant video clips of different parent-infant interaction styles
- small group reflective practice slots where practitioners bring anonymised live cases for group discussion.
After BIOM training, practitioners report increased confidence in their ability to put the parent-infant relationship at the centre of their work.
